In Judah is God known: his name is great in Israel
(Psalm 76:1).
Today’s Morsel: The Book of Matthew begins with the words, “The book of the generation of Jesus Christ, the son of David, the son of Abraham” (Matthew 1:1). When we look into Scripture, we can see that both Jesus and David were of the tribe of Judah. Isaiah said, “For unto us a child is born, unto us a son is given: and the government shall be upon his shoulder: and his name shall be called Wonderful, Counseller, The mighty God, The everlasting Father, The Prince of Peace” (Isaiah 9:6). He also recorded, “And he said, Hear ye now, O house of David; Is it a small thing for you to weary men, but will ye weary my God also? Therefore the Lord himself shall give you a sign; Behold, a virgin shall conceive, and bear a son, and shall call his name Immanuel” (Isaiah 7:13-14). The Son’s name would be Immanuel. Matthew, who opened the lineage of Judah, said, “And she shall bring forth a son, and thou shalt call his name JESUS: for he shall save his people from their sins. Now all this was done, that it might be fulfilled which was spoken of the Lord by the prophet, saying, Behold, a virgin shall be with child, and shall bring forth a son, and they shall call his name Emmanuel, which being interpreted is, God with us. Then Joseph being raised from sleep did as the angel of the Lord had bidden him, and took unto him his wife: and knew her not till she had brought forth her firstborn son: and he called his name JESUS” (Matthew 1:21-25). The psalmist said that in Judah is God known. Judah means praise. Therefore, in your praise is God known. How you exalt and magnify Him will make Him known unto others, and they will be able to see just how great He truly is.
Sing: How great is our God, sing with me how great is our God, and all will see how great, how great, is our God.
Name above all names, worthy of our praise, my heart will sing how great is our God.
