The Value of Afflictions

“It is good for me that I have been afflicted; that I might learn thy statutes.” (Psalms 119:71)

Today’s Morsel: One of the things that we must learn as Christians is that God did not promise you a rose garden, nor did He say that you would not have troubles and tribulations for serving and committing yourself to Him. As a matter of fact, Jesus said: “If the world hate you, ye know that it hated me before it hated you. If ye were of the world, the world would love his own: but because ye are not of the world, but I have chosen you out of the world, therefore the world hateth you. Remember the word that I said unto you, The servant is not greater than his lord. If they have persecuted me, they will also persecute you; if they have kept my saying, they will keep yours also. But all these things will they do unto you for my name's sake, because they know not him that sent me.” (John 15:18-21) and then He said: “Fear none of those things which thou shalt suffer: behold, the devil shall cast some of you into prison, that ye may be tried; and ye shall have tribulation ten days: be thou faithful unto death, and I will give thee a crown of life.” (Revelation 2:10) So, when hell starts coming against you, and afflictions (sickness, disease, infirmities, disorders, problems, and   difficulties) start raining down on your parade, you need to have your mind made up, and say as Job said, “But he knoweth the way that I take: when he hath tried me, I shall come forth as gold.” (Job 23:10) And as Moses wrote of the children of Israel when afflicted by Pharoah: “But the more they afflicted them, the more they multiplied and grew. And they were grieved because of the children of Israel.” (Exodus 1:12) Seeing us standing strong while growing and maturing in Christ in the time of affliction ought to make the devil tremble.  Are you making him tremble?

Sing: Great and mighty is the Lord our God, great and mighty is He. Great and mighty is the Lord our God, great and mighty is He. Lift-up your banner let the anthem ring, praises to our King.  Great and mighty is the Lord our God, great and mighty is He.

Thought For Today: “Many are the afflictions of the righteous: but the LORD delivereth him out of them all.” (Psalms 34:19)
