Controlling Our Thoughts
“Commit
thy works unto the LORD, and thy thoughts shall be established.” (Proverbs 16:3)
Today’s Morsel:
There have been times that I have been asked to go to the hospital to visit a
patient because of their mental state. I have been told by some that they
are having trouble controlling their thoughts. They say that they keep
hearing voices in their heads. They want to know why they are having such
strange and evil thoughts. I believe that our thoughts are developed
based on what we think, fear, watch, read, and hear. Jesus said,
"For out of the heart proceed evil
thoughts…" Matthew 15:19 Evil thoughts of God, of Christ, of the Holy Spirit, of fellow man, and of all sorts of wickedness. The thoughts
of sin are evil. All wicked imaginations, carnal reasonings, lustful
desires, and malicious gadgets that corrupt the heart of man are evil. If
we want to control our thoughts, then we must obey the word of God. “Finally, brethren, whatsoever things are true,
whatsoever things are honest, whatsoever things are just,
whatsoever things are pure, whatsoever things are lovely,
whatsoever things are of good report; if there be any
virtue, and if there be any praise, think on these things.
Those things, which ye have both learned, and received, and heard, and seen in
me, do: and the God of peace shall be with you.” (Philippians 4:8-9) If we want to
control our thoughts, then we must control what we allow into our minds. The
mind is a terrible thing to waste.
Sing: I’ve
got a made-up mind; I’ve got a final destination, gonna keep on pressing on, to
my final destination; gonna burn all the bridges behind me, break all the ties
that bind me; gonna keep on pressing on, till I reach my home sweet home, that
new Jerusalem.
Thought For Today: “If
we want to control our thoughts, then we must control what we allow into our
minds.” (Parker)
