Right Living
“Whosoever committeth sin transgresseth also the law: for sin is the transgression of the law. And ye know that he was manifested to take away our sins; and in him is no sin. Whosoever abideth in him sinneth not: whosoever sinneth hath not seen him, neither known him. Little children, let no man deceive you: he that doeth righteousness is righteous, even as he is righteous. He that committeth sin is of the devil; for the devil sinneth from the beginning. For this purpose the Son of God was manifested, that he might destroy the works of the devil. Whosoever is born of God doth not commit sin; for his seed remaineth in him: and he cannot sin, because he is born of God.” (1 John 3:4-9)
Today’s Morsel: Sin seems to be picking up speed faster than ever. Even the churches seem to be getting caught up in the world and its ways. Sins are taking the young and not so young at its will. Many have allowed sin to take them at will and now they are not able to flee. And those who do flee have made themselves a prey. John cautions and reminds us that if we say that we know Christ and are in Christ, then we should not be sinning. Our lives ought to reflect His righteousness. When the church continues to tell people that no one is prefect, it causes them to stop trying to avoid sin in their life. When Cain’s offering was rejected by the Lord, he did not do what was right. The Lord didn’t tell him, “That’s alright Cain, everyone sins, and you’ll get it right next time.” No! The Lord told him, “If thou doest well, shalt thou not be accepted? and if thou doest not well, sin lieth at the door. And unto thee shall be his desire, and thou shalt rule over him.” (Genesis 4:7) Notice what God told Cain, if he does well or what is right, he will be accepted. But if not, sin is right there at his door to pounce on him. But Cain needed to rule over sin and not allow sin to rule over him. And the only way he was going to do that was by righteous living. The only way you will keep sin out is to keep Jesus in and do what is right always. We must move on to perfection.
Sing: Who is this who loves a sinner as a father loves his own, grieving over those who spurn His gentle plea? Always ready to forgive them and to make forgiveness known; Who is this forever calling you and me?
It is Jesus! Jesus! Sad one weep no more! He will heal the brokenhearted, opened wide the prison door, He is able to deliver evermore.
Thought For Today: “Knowing this, that our old man is crucified with him, that the body of sin might be destroyed, that henceforth we should not serve sin.” (Romans 6:6)
