Morning Manna by Rufus Parker - 20 July 2019

When You Pray

“And when the servant of the man of God was risen early, and gone forth, behold, an host compassed the city both with horses and chariots. And his servant said unto him, Alas, my master! how shall we do? And he answered, Fear not: for they that be with us are more than they that be with them. And Elisha prayed, and said, LORD, I pray thee, open his eyes, that he may see. And the LORD opened the eyes of the young man; and he saw: and, behold, the mountain was full of horses and chariots of fire round about Elisha.”

(2 Kings 6:15-17)

Today’s Morsel: Prayer is not about how loud you can shout or how demonstrative you think you must be to get God’s attention. God doesn’t have a hearing loss. The last time I checked, He could hear pretty good. I think our prayers should be more of a one-on-one communication and conversation with God. I think if we yell and scream, God may not hear what we are asking of Him. When children are screaming and hollering, trying to get their parents attention, the parent usually tries to calm them down first so that can understand what they are wanting. How do you pray for lost loved ones? The best way I have found to pray for them is to ask God to open their eyes and their understanding that they might see. This has been my approach for all backsliders, those who have taken the name of the Lord in vain, and for those who do things that go against His word. I just ask God to open their eyes that they might be able to see their wrong and change. I don’t need to stand along the road holding a sign pointing out peoples' wrong. I let God open their eyes. My road sign, evil posts on social media, and blatant public comments may keep them blinded to the truth. Elisha simply asked God to open his servant's eyes that he might see. Take the calm approach and watch God work.

Sing: Let us have a little talk with Jesus, tell Him about our troubles, He will hear our faintest cry, He will answer by and by. When you feel a little prayer wheel turning, you’ll know a little fire is burning, you’ll find a little talk with Jesus makes it right.

Thought For Today: Prayer still work when done right.

And it came to pass, as Aaron spake unto the whole congregation of the children of Israel, that they looked toward the wilderness, and, behold, the glory of the LORD appeared in the cloud. And the LORD spake unto Moses, saying, I have heard the murmurings of the children of Israel: speak unto them, saying, At even ye shall eat flesh, and in the morning ye shall be filled with bread; and ye shall know that I am the LORD your God. And it came to pass, that at even the quails came up, and covered the camp: and in the morning the dew lay round about the host. And when the dew that lay was gone up, behold, upon the face of the wilderness there lay a small round thing, as small as the hoar frost on the ground. And when the children of Israel saw it, they said one to another, It is manna: for they wist not what it was. And Moses said unto them, This is the bread which the LORD hath given you to eat (Exodus 16:10-15).

“Morning Manna” is a short daily devotion which began in 2002, with just a short note of encouragement to a friend who was facing difficulties at the time. Through their response, I was encouraged to begin a daily devotion via email and send it to people who asked to be put on the distribution list. It is now reaching around the globe. Its birth came about during Morning Prayer. The Lord revealed to me that I should forward my friend a word of encouragement, since it is through patience and comfort of the scripture that we find hope. Thus, I forwarded him the words the Lord had given to me for him, and he forwarded it on to someone else who was having difficulties in their life as well, and thus the original list began.

The goal of “Morning Manna” is to provide people with a quick, thought provoking Word from the Lord, as well as provide encouragement from His Word that can help them through the day and during unexpected trails and circumstances in their daily lives.

Several years ago, Jesus moved on my heart to start writing daily devotions; thus began “Morning Manna”. Today, many people are receiving these daily devotions and many of these people are forwarding it on to their family and friends. It is my hope to encourage even more through posting the devotions to this blog-page.
