2011 January 7 - Morning Manna

Greater love hath no man than this, that a man lay down his life for his friends. Ye are my friends, if ye do whatsoever I command you.  Henceforth I call you not servants; for the servant knoweth not what his lord doeth: but I have called you friends; for all things that I have heard of my Father I have made known unto you.
(John 15:13-15)

Today's Morsel:  How many people do you know that when you introduce them to others you begin by saying, "Let me introduce you to my friend, ________?"  Why do we have so few real friends?  Solomon said that a man that would have friends, must show himself friendly.  Are our friends few because of  we ourselves?  Why don't we go out of our way to make more friends?  Are we afraid of being let down?  True friendship begins with us.  Even if others hurt us, we must learn to practice being friendly.  Jesus said to His disciples, "I have called you friends."  What does that mean to you? How do you translate that? What did Jesus do to make them as well as us His friend?  He was willing to give His life for us, His friends.  What do you do to make others your friend.  Here are a few ways to recognize true friendship.  First, friends will comfort and support you when trouble or disaster shows up in your life.  Second, friends are devoted to you, they are loyal and willing to change their plans just for you. Third, friends love you no matter the situation or what you have done.  Through thick and thin they are still there.  Fourth, friends will speak constructively - even when it hurts.  And finally, friends will help you.  "A friend is a person who knows all about you, and still likes you." Elbert Hubbard.  I wonder if that's why they say a dog is a man's best friend!

Sing: What a friend we have in Jesus, all our sins and griefs to bear!  What a privilege to carry everything to God in prayer! O what peace we often forfeit, O what needless pain we bear, all because we do not carry
everything to God in prayer
.

Have we trials and temptations? Is there trouble anywhere? We should never be discouraged; take it to the Lord in prayer. Can we find a friend so faithful who will all our sorrows share? Jesus knows our every weakness; take it to the Lord in prayer.

Are we weak and heavy laden, cumbered with a load of care? Precious Savior, still our refuge; take it to the Lord in prayer.  Do thy friends despise, forsake thee? Take it to the Lord in prayer! In his arms he'll take and shield thee; thou wilt find a solace there.
