Do You Know The God of Your Father?

“And thou, Solomon my son, know thou the God of thy father, and serve him with a perfect heart and with a willing mind: for the LORD searcheth all hearts, and understandeth all the imaginations of the thoughts: if thou seek him, he will be found of thee; but if thou forsake him, he will cast thee off for ever. Take heed now; for the LORD hath chosen thee to build an house for the sanctuary: be strong, and do it.” (1 Chronicles 28:9-10)

Today’s Morsel: Scripture says, “When Jesus came into the coasts of Caesarea Philippi, he asked his disciples, saying, Whom do men say that I the Son of man am?” (Matthew 16:13). Jesus knew that the people of Israel were never to forget who God was. They had been instructed from the time that they were delivered from Egypt not to forget what God had done for them. And they were to teach all the laws, statutes, testimonies, commandments, fears, and judgments to their children. Jesus knew the question was on the streets as to who He was, and so He wanted to know who His disciples thought that He was. David told his son Solomon to know the God of His father and serve Him with a perfect heart and willing mind. He told him to know His God. Do you know Him? Is the reason that many will not serve Him is because they do not know Him? We are to know Him and to make Him known by our lives. Our character and behavior should reflect Him. Everything that we do ought to be a revelation of Him. God told Moses, “And I appeared unto Abraham, unto Isaac, and unto Jacob, by the name of God Almighty, but by my name JEHOVAH was I not known to them.” (Exodus 6:3). Abraham, Issac, and Jacob, knew Him as El-Shaddai. The God of supreme power, sovereignty, and the ability to provide and to multiply. This is how they understood God. But by His name Yahweh, or Lord, Jehovah, he was not known to them. Yes, they knew Him as Yahweh, but they did not know what the complete meaning of, or what that name meant. The name Jehovah is tied to His covenant-keeping faithfulness and deliverance. God was telling Him that Israel was not only going to know Him as an all-powerful God that gave promise, He was getting ready to show them, that He is a God that fulfills His promises. And Moses would tell the children of Israel, “Hear, O Israel: The LORD our God is one LORD: And thou shalt love the LORD thy God with all thine heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy might. And these words, which I command thee this day, shall be in thine heart: And thou shalt teach them diligently unto thy children, and shalt talk of them when thou sittest in thine house, and when thou walkest by the way, and when thou liest down, and when thou risest up. And thou shalt bind them for a sign upon thine hand, and they shall be as frontlets between thine eyes. And thou shalt write them upon the posts of thy house, and on thy gates.” (Deuteronomy 6:4-9) Do you know Him?

Sing: There’s just so many wonderful things about Jesus, there’s just so many wonderful things about Him; His name is wonderful, He’s a wonderful counselor, there so many wonderful things about Him. He is the Mighty God, the Everlasting Father, He is the Prince of Peace, there so many wonderful things about Him.

Thought For Today: If you know Him and love Him, then serve Him.

And it came to pass, as Aaron spake unto the whole congregation of the children of Israel, that they looked toward the wilderness, and, behold, the glory of the LORD appeared in the cloud. And the LORD spake unto Moses, saying, I have heard the murmurings of the children of Israel: speak unto them, saying, At even ye shall eat flesh, and in the morning ye shall be filled with bread; and ye shall know that I am the LORD your God. And it came to pass, that at even the quails came up, and covered the camp: and in the morning the dew lay round about the host. And when the dew that lay was gone up, behold, upon the face of the wilderness there lay a small round thing, as small as the hoar frost on the ground. And when the children of Israel saw it, they said one to another, It is manna: for they wist not what it was. And Moses said unto them, This is the bread which the LORD hath given you to eat (Exodus 16:10-15).

“Morning Manna” is a short daily devotion which began in 2002, with just a short note of encouragement to a friend who was facing difficulties at the time. Through their response, I was encouraged to begin a daily devotion via email and send it to people who asked to be put on the distribution list. It is now reaching around the globe. Its birth came about during Morning Prayer. The Lord revealed to me that I should forward my friend a word of encouragement, since it is through patience and comfort of the scripture that we find hope. Thus, I forwarded him the words the Lord had given to me for him, and he forwarded it on to someone else who was having difficulties in their life as well, and thus the original list began.

The goal of “Morning Manna” is to provide people with a quick, thought provoking Word from the Lord, as well as provide encouragement from His Word that can help them through the day and during unexpected trails and circumstances in their daily lives.

Several years ago, Jesus moved on my heart to start writing daily devotions; thus began “Morning Manna”. Today, many people are receiving these daily devotions and many of these people are forwarding it on to their family and friends. It is my hope to encourage even more through posting the devotions to this blog-page.

I pray that you, too, will enjoy reading the manna from this site.
