The name of the LORD is a strong tower: the righteous runneth into it, and is safe. (Proverbs 18:10)
Today's Morsel: When God was delivering the children of Israel from bondage, and when He began to give Moses the law, status, and judgments, He identified certain cities for refuge. He told Moses, "Speak unto the children of Israel, and say unto them, When ye be come over Jordan into the land of Canaan; Then ye shall appoint you cities to be cities of refuge for you; that the slayer may flee thither, which killeth any person at unawares. And they shall be unto you cities for refuge from the avenger; that the manslayer die not, until he stand before the congregation in judgment. And of these cities which ye shall give six cities shall ye have for refuge. Ye shall give three cities on this side Jordan, and three cities shall ye give in the land of Canaan, which shall be cities of refuge. These six cities shall be a refuge, both for the children of Israel, and for the stranger, and for the sojourner among them: that every one that killeth any person unawares may flee thither"(Numbers 35:10-15). It was a place of safety until he could be brought to trial to present his case to ensure fairness. Moses would later tell the children of Israel, "The eternal God is thy refuge, and underneath are the everlasting arms: and he shall thrust out the enemy from before thee; and shall say, Destroy them"(Deuteronomy 33:27). He wanted them to know who their real refuge was; which he said was the eternal God. Do you have a refuge, a place that you can run into and be safe in the time of trouble? There is no place as safe as being in Jesus Christ. The Psalmist encourages and lets us know that, "God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble" (Psalms 46:1). All because, "The name of the LORD is a strong tower: the righteous runneth into it, and is safe" (Proverbs 18:10).
Sing: The name of the LORD is, a strong tower, the righteous run into it, and they are safe; The name of the LORD is, a strong tower, the righteous run into it, and they are safe. Blessed be the name of the Lord; Blessed be the name of the Lord; Blessed be the name of the Lord, Most High! Blessed be the name of the Lord; Blessed be the name of the Lord; Blessed be the name of the Lord, Most High.
