Morning Manna by Rufus Parker - 2025 July 26

Did You Forget Your Cross Today?

And he said to them all, If any man will come after me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross daily, and follow me.” (Luke 9:23)

Today’s Morsel: One of the things we must do is call to memory the reason for the cross. The faster the world spins and technology abounds, the loss for spiritual things will wane if we are not careful. Many today have no knowledge of the cross and its meaning. Every generation was supposed to share with the next generation the things that God had done for them so that it was not lost. But sad to say, that, too, is slipping by the wayside. The cross still makes a difference in our lives. Salvation was birthed at Calvary. So today, I want you to sing this old hymn and allow it to sink back into your heart, and maybe even start to sing it again in your churches so that the new generations can know the reason and its meaning. Let’s share the cross and its meaning today.

Sing:

            1.  On a hill far away stood an old rugged cross, the emblem of suffering                     and shame; And I love that old cross where the Dearest and Best, For a                     world of lost sinners was slain. (Refrain)

Refrain:
So I’ll cherish the old rugged cross, till my trophies at last I lay down; I will cling to the old rugged cross and exchange it someday for a crown.

2. Oh, that old rugged cross, so despised by the world, has a wondrous attraction for me; For the dear Lamb of God left His glory above to bear it to dark Calvary. (Refrain)

3. In that old rugged cross, stained with blood so divine, a wondrous beauty I see, for ’twas on that old cross Jesus suffered and died, to pardon and sanctify me. (Refrain)

4. To the old, rugged cross I will ever be true; Its shame and reproach gladly bear; then He’ll call me someday to my home far away, where His glory forever I’ll share. (Refrain)

Thought For Today: “Give instruction to a wise man, and he will be yet wiser: teach a just man, and he will increase in learning.” (Proverbs 9:9)
