Morning Manna by Rufus Parker - 2017 November 13

“If thy brother, the son of thy mother, or thy son, or thy daughter, or the wife of thy bosom, or thy friend, which is as thine own soul, entice thee secretly, saying, Let us go and serve other gods, which thou hast not known, thou, nor thy fathers; Namely, of the gods of the people which are round about you, nigh unto thee, or far off from thee, from the one end of the earth even unto the other end of the earth; Thou shalt not consent unto him, nor hearken unto him; neither shall thine eye pity him, neither shalt thou spare, neither shalt thou conceal him: But thou shalt surely kill him; thine hand shall be first upon him to put him to death, and afterwards the hand of all the people. And thou shalt stone him with stones, that he die; because he hath sought to thrust thee away from the LORD thy God, which brought thee out of the land of Egypt, from the house of bondage. And all Israel shall hear, and fear, and shall do no more any such wickedness as this is among you” (Deuteronomy 13:6-11).

Today’s Morsel:  One of the things I have learned and seen in the church is that no one backslides by themselves. Sadly, they will always take someone with them.  Maybe it’s the person who complains a lot; or the one who doesn’t like the style of music;, or the one who disagrees with the pastor’s stand on doctrine and teachings.  Either way, they aren’t going to leave by themselves.  Moses told the children of Israel, “If thy brother, the son of thy mother, or thy son, or thy daughter, or the wife of thy bosom, or thy friend, which is as thine own soul, entice thee secretly, saying, Let us go and serve other gods, which thou hast not known, thou, nor thy fathers; Namely, of the gods of the people which are round about you, nigh unto thee, or far off from thee, from the one end of the earth even unto the other end of the earth; Thou shalt not consent unto him, nor hearken unto him; neither shall thine eye pity him, neither shalt thou spare, neither shalt thou conceal him: But thou shalt surely kill him; thine hand shall be first upon him to put him to death, and afterwards the hand of all the people.”  In other words, cut them off.  Get them out of your life because they will cause you hardship and trouble. As Solomon’s mother told him, there is a snare and you do not want to be trapped by it (see Proverbs 1).  Don’t allow some to lead you astray.  Eternity in hell is a long time to be trapped.

Sing:  I’ve got a made-up mind, I’ve got a final destination, going to keep on pressing on, to my final destination.  Gonna burn all the bridges behind me, break all the ties that bind me; gonna keep on pressing on, till I reach that home sweet home. that New Jerusalem.

Thought For Today:  Be ye steadfast and unmovable (Parker).
