True and False Witnesses
“Beware of false prophets, which come to you in sheep's clothing, but inwardly they are ravening wolves. Ye shall know them by their fruits. Do men gather grapes of thorns, or figs of thistles? Even so every good tree bringeth forth good fruit; but a corrupt tree bringeth forth evil fruit. A good tree cannot bring forth evil fruit, neither can a corrupt tree bring forth good fruit. Every tree that bringeth not forth good fruit is hewn down, and cast into the fire. Wherefore by their fruits ye shall know them.” (Matthew 7:15-20)
Today’s Morsel: Are you able to discern false witnesses of Jesus from the true ones? Jesus said that you would know them by their fruits. Paul enlightens us to what fruit came with the Spirit. “But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, gentleness, goodness, faith, Meekness, temperance: against such there is no law.” (Galatians 5:22-23) So your measuring stick is to look for these traits in the life of those who say that they are Christians and witnesses for Christ. The writer of Proverbs tells us: “A true witness delivereth souls: but a deceitful witness speaketh lies.” (Proverbs 14:25) A true witness of Jesus is going to tell you the truth of God’s word and bring it to you in love. A true witness wants to see you saved. They want to see you free from sin, confusion, and they want to see you free from living without hope, peace, and joy in your life. A true witness know that Jesus came to give us life and that more abundantly. The Prophet Isaiah presents those witnesses of Jesus by says:“Therefore my people shall know my name: therefore they shall know in that day that I am he that doth speak: behold, it is I. How beautiful upon the mountains are the feet of him that bringeth good tidings, that publisheth peace; that bringeth good tidings of good, that publisheth salvation; that saith unto Zion, Thy God reigneth!” (Isaiah 52:6-7) God’s true witnesses will bring you peace and show you the salvation of the Lord. “Now when they heard this, they were pricked in their heart, and said unto Peter and to the rest of the apostles, Men and brethren, what shall we do? Then Peter said unto them, Repent, and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins, and ye shall receive the gift of the Holy Ghost. For the promise is unto you, and to your children, and to all that are afar off, even as many as the Lord our God shall call. And with many other words did he testify and exhort, saying, Save yourselves from this untoward generation. Then they that gladly received his word were baptized: and the same day there were added unto them about three thousand souls. And they continued stedfastly in the apostles' doctrine and fellowship, and in breaking of bread, and in prayers.” (Acts 2:37-42)
Sing: I’m so glad that Jesus lifted me, I’m so glad that Jesus lifted me, I’m so glad that Jesus lifted me, I’m singing glory hallelujah, Jesus lifted me.
Thought For Today: “There was a man sent from God, whose name was John. The same came for a witness, to bear witness of the Light, that all men through him might believe.” (John 1:6-7)
