The Power of Humility
“By humility and the fear of the LORD are riches, and honour, and life.” (Proverbs 22:4)
Today’s Morsel: One of the worst things that can happen to a Christian is that they lose their love for humility. Paul told the church at Philippi: “Let this mind be in you, which was also in Christ Jesus: Who, being in the form of God, thought it not robbery to be equal with God: But made himself of no reputation, and took upon him the form of a servant, and was made in the likeness of men: And being found in fashion as a man, he humbled himself, and became obedient unto death, even the death of the cross. Wherefore God also hath highly exalted him, and given him a name which is above every name: That at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, of things in heaven, and things in earth, and things under the earth; And that every tongue should confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.” (Philippians 2:5-11) He said that Jesus humbled himself. Even though He was God manifested in flesh, He still maintained a heart of humility. Peter tells us: “Likewise, ye younger, submit yourselves unto the elder. Yea, all of you be subject one to another, and be clothed with humility: for God resisteth the proud, and giveth grace to the humble. Humble yourselves therefore under the mighty hand of God, that he may exalt you in due time:” (1 Peter 5:5-6) So how do we clothe ourselves with humility? We must adopt an attitude of selflessness, servanthood, and meekness. We must remain abase and we must elevate others. We must recognize our dependance upon God rather than ourselves. We must shed ourselves of all pride, self-importance and let Christ rein and rule in our lives. Scripture tells us that God hates pride, but He gives grace to the humble. You don’t need to elevate yourself, let God be the One who does the elevating.
Sing: Take this offering that I bring, Humbly I fall on my knees; to proclaim You’re everything. My life’s nothing without You, take my hand and lead me through, You are my sustaining love. I live to worship You. I live to worship You.
Here I am worshipping You, with all I am, worshipping You, bowing down in spirit and truth, with lifted hands, here I am worshipping.
Thought For Today: “Better it is to be of an humble spirit with the lowly, than to divide the spoil with the proud.” (Proverbs 16:19)
