Go Beyond The Surface
“I commend unto you Phebe our sister, which is a servant of the church which is at Cenchrea: That ye receive her in the Lord, as becometh saints, and that ye assist her in whatsoever business she hath need of you: for she hath been a succourer of many, and of myself also.” (Romans 16:1-2)
Today’s Morsel: In the 60’s, the group, “The Temptations” sang a song entitled, “Beauty Is Only Skin Deep.” In other words, if you want to see the real person, you must look beyond that initial layer of skin. You want to look on the heart or one’s character. I think this may be why God told Samuel when He sent him to anoint David, King of Isreal, not to look on the outward appearance, as God looks on the heart. God knew David’s heart. Scripture says, “And when he had removed him, he raised up unto them David to be their king; to whom also he gave testimony, and said, I have found David the son of Jesse, a man after mine own heart, which shall fulfil all my will.” (Acts 13:22) George Washington says, “One of the signs of a beautiful person, is that they always see the beauty in others.”
Sing: He gave me beauty for ashes, the oil of joy for mourning, the garment of praise for the spirit of heaviness; that we might be call trees of righteousness the planted of the Lord, that He might be glorified.
Thought For Today: Always know the character of a person before you call them friend.
