And The Child Grew
“And the child grew, and waxed strong in spirit, filled with wisdom: and the grace of God was upon him.” (Luke 2:40)
Today’s Morsel: We don’t read much in scripture about Jesus’ childhood. Luke seems to be the only writer that even mentions anything about His birth and childhood. Luke tells us that Jesus grew, and waxed strong in spirit, filled with wisdom: and the grace of God was upon him. Not only was Jesus God, but He was also human. And that humanity was subject to all the temptations and sins as we are. But Jesus increased in knowledge, strength, and character. From His humanity standpoint, He learned wisdom, even though He possessed all wisdom. He found grace in the sight of God, even though He is the One that gives us grace. From just this little bit about Jesus’ infancy, we can learn how we must grow as well. Peter admonishes us, “But grow in grace, and in the knowledge of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ.” (2 Peter 3:18) You can’t stay a child forever. You must become strong in the Lord and in the power of His might. You must grow up and mature as a child of God. Peter said that milk belong to babies, and meat to men (my wording). You must be filled with His wisdom, knowledge, and understanding, if you are going to grow and become like Him.
Sing: To be like Jesus, to be like Jesus; On earth I long to be like Him. All through life’s journey from earth to glory, I only ask to be like Him.
Thought For Today: Growth always begins with submission (Parker)
