Morning Manna by Rufus Parker - 2025 July 24

Submission

“Obey them that have the rule over you, and submit yourselves: for they watch for your souls, as they that must give account, that they may do it with joy, and not with grief: for that is unprofitable for you.” (Hebrews 13:17)

Today’s Morsel: One of the first lessons that I learned in the army was that of submission. The military is all about submission to those over you and to authority. If you fail to submit, they have rules in place to adjust your attitude to where you do. When your unit’s First Sergeant posts the unit’s training schedule on the  bulletin board, he or she isn’t going to tell you to be at formation. They expect you to read it and submit yourself to what it says. If you don’t show up, you soon find out why you wish you had. Submission is like a submarine. The submarine goes under the water. With submission, you are coming under those over you for mission accomplishment. You may not agree with them or even like them, but your submission is so that the mission can get accomplished. Peter cautioned, “Likewise, ye younger, submit yourselves unto the elder. Yea, all of you be subject one to another, and be clothed with humility: for God resisteth the proud, and giveth grace to the humble.” (1 Peter 5:5) Notice how he associates submission with humility. Having a spirit of humility is not seen in those who elevate themselves or who are disobedient to those over them. It is seen in the ones who submit themselves and who are subject to others.

Sing: For He is Lord, He is Lord, He has risen from the dead and He is Lord; Every knee shall bow, and every tongue confess that Jesus Christ is Lord.

Thought For Today: “And why call ye me, Lord, Lord, and do not the things which I say?” (Luke 6:46)
