Do You Understand The Mission?
“Afterward he appeared unto the eleven as they sat at meat, and upbraided them with their unbelief and hardness of heart, because they believed not them which had seen him after he was risen. And he said unto them, Go ye into all the world, and preach the gospel to every creature. He that believeth and is baptized shall be saved; but he that believeth not shall be damned. And these signs shall follow them that believe; In my name shall they cast out devils; they shall speak with new tongues; They shall take up serpents; and if they drink any deadly thing, it shall not hurt them; they shall lay hands on the sick, and they shall recover. So then after the Lord had spoken unto them, he was received up into heaven, and sat on the right hand of God. And they went forth, and preached every where, the Lord working with them, and confirming the word with signs following. Amen.” (Mark 16:14-20)
Today’s Morsel: One of the things about warfare is that if you do not understand the mission, you are going to become frustrated, irritated, discouraged, angry, and upset. Soldiers don’t want to be sent anywhere without a purpose. Soldier’s like doing missions. That’s what they have been trained for. And they want to know what it is, so they can prepare and be successful. They don’t like wasting their time without a reason or purpose. When Jesus told His disciples what the mission was after His resurrection, scripture says, “And they went forth, and preached everywhere, the Lord working with them, and confirming the word with signs following.” And in Acts 8, we read: “Therefore they that were scattered abroad went every where preaching the word. Then Philip went down to the city of Samaria, and preached Christ unto them. And the people with one accord gave heed unto those things which Philip spake, hearing and seeing the miracles which he did. For unclean spirits, crying with loud voice, came out of many that were possessed with them: and many taken with palsies, and that were lame, were healed. And there was great joy in that city.” (Acts 8:4-8) And we read in Acts 16: “And a vision appeared to Paul in the night; There stood a man of Macedonia, and prayed him, saying, Come over into Macedonia, and help us. And after he had seen the vision, immediately we endeavoured to go into Macedonia, assuredly gathering that the Lord had called us for to preach the gospel unto them.” (Acts 16:9-10) The mission is to take the whole gospel to the whole world by the whole church, so that people can be made free. As General George S. Patton said, “Don’t tell soldiers how to do a job. Tell them what needs to be done and let them surprise you with their ingenuity.” And that even includes sharing the gospel.
Sing: It shall be light in the evening time; the path to glory you will surely find through the water way; It is the light today, Baptized in Jesus name. Young and old, repent of all your sin, then the Holy Ghost will enter in. The evening time has come; “Tis a fact that God and Christ are one.”
Thought For Today: “And this gospel of the kingdom shall be preached in all the world for a witness unto all nations; and then shall the end come.” (Matthew 24:14)
