2011 May 30 - Morning Manna

Thou therefore, my son, be strong in the grace that is in Christ Jesus. And the things that thou hast heard of me among many witnesses, the same commit thou to faithful men, who shall be able to teach others also. Thou therefore endure hardness, as a good soldier of Jesus Christ. No man that warreth entangleth himself with the affairs of this life; that he may please him who hath chosen him to be a soldier (2 Timothy 2:1-4).

Today's Morsel:  Memorial Day, originally called Decoration Day, is a day of remembrance for those who have died in our nation's service.  Today we honor those who served and gave the ultimate sacrifice.  The poem, "Freedom Is Not Free" is a reminder of those who served.

Freedom Is Not Free:
"I watched the flag pass by one day, It fluttered in the breeze; a young Marine saluted it, and then he stood at ease.  I looked at him in uniform, so young, so tall, so proud; with hair cut square and eyes alert, he'd stand out in any crowd.

I thought ... how many men like him had fallen through the years?  How many died on foreign soil?  How many mothers' tears?  How many pilot's planes shot down?  How many died at sea?  How many foxholes were soldiers graves?  No ... Freedom is not Free.

I heard the sound of Taps one night, when everything was still; I listened to the bugler play, and felt a sudden chill; I wondered just how many times that Taps had meant "Amen," when a flag had draped a coffin of a brother or a friend; I thought of all the children, of the mothers and the wives, of fathers, sons and husbands ...with interrupted lives.

I thought about a graveyard at the bottom of the sea, of unmarked graves in Arlington ... No ... Freedom is not Free! "

Sing: 1. Ho, my comrades, see the signal, waving in the sky!   reinforcements now appearing, victory is nigh.
2. See the mighty host advancing, Satan leading on; Mighty ones around us falling, courage almost gone!
3. See the glorious banner waving! Hear the trumpet blow! In our Leader’s Name we triumph over every foe.
4. Fierce and long the battle rages, but our help is near;  Onward comes our great Commander, cheer, my comrades, cheer!

Chorus: “Hold the fort, for I am coming,” Jesus signals still; Wave the answer back to Heaven, “By Thy grace we will.”

Happy Memorial Day; and this Memorial Day, take time to remember those who have served to give the freedom you enjoy!
